Day 11

On the way to Nice....Les Baux |
Nothing stops our little group! Yes, that's them at the summit of the castle ruins! (in the header picture)...when we want a great view, we "billy goat" up to the very top and GET our pictures. Our wise tour guide got us to Les Baux before the masses descended upon the ruins and we got up and down the fortress before the crowds got too large. Giddy-up!
Half-time entertainment, so to speak, was a medieval demonstration of how to use a catapult. A swaggering bunch of medieval warrior/actors pursued the crowd for volunteers to help demonstate the smaller version of this weapon. First up where the ladies and one of our group, Eliza, made the cut. Instructions were given and the women executed the "firing" of the weapon. Men from the crowd were then drafted to arm and fire the second and larger reproduction. We enjoyed watching another member of our group, Matt, play his part in that performance. The actors were cheeky and made for a fun and interesting demonstration of these impressive weapons. It gave new meaning to the danger of water balloons.
Free time pictures from Les Baux
I spent a happy time sitting in the shade sketching this little Les Baux square.
And, finally, Nice!
Wonderful Nice!
