Day 7
Market Day in Sarlat
Saturday was our vacation from our vacation, but Julie gave us an assignment......buy something to share at lunch during Sunday's canal barge picnic. There was an overload of choices! The market itself lined both sides of the main Street of Sarlat. Clothing, local crafts, and kitchenware booths occupied this part of the market but a detour off the Main Street paid off with choices of fresh edibles. Booths were tucked in the winding alleyways with the little town square home to what looked like all the favorite shopping venues of the locals. I knew the men in our group would go more for the meats
The Sarlat Saturday market stretched for blocks down the main avenue. Weaving back through the older part of town, you can find fresh fruit and veg along with anything walnut and foie gras. The wares ranged from dollar kitch to amazing hand made jewelry. The organic produce was located at the end of the street. I spent the morning people watching and shopping. The place was packed with tourists and locals alike! I spent the rest of the afternoon sketching, exploring (the residence side of Sarlat really is wonderful), and reorganizing my stuff! But, the day is not over, Julie had an optional event planned for that evening.......a boules tournament!
Let the games begin....... |
